ASKC Public Outreach and Education
ASKC has an active group of volunteers that love sharing the night sky with others in our community. They often attend school science nights, talk with after-school clubs, set up telescopes at Scouting events, and meet with other community groups throughout the Kansas City metro. Our volunteers bring telescopes, educational materials, and astronomical demonstrations to share with others. Outreach events occur day and night and can occur with cloudy or clear skies depending on the event.
If you are interested in having ASKC volunteers come to your organization, please follow the link below. Due to the volunteer nature of the program, times and availability will vary, but we will do our best to join you in your exploration of the cosmos.
Volunteer for the ASKC!
Do you have a passion for sharing day and nighttime astronomy with others? We need your help! Whether you have a telescope, solar scope, astrophotography rig, or just a friendly demeanor, you can be a part of the ASKC outreach program.
Volunteers are needed for:
- Public Nights at Powell Observatory
- Public Nights at Warko Observatory
- Dark Sky Site operations
- School outreach events (i.e. Science nights, Science clubs, etc.)
- Homeschool education events
- Overland Park Arboretum telescope nights
Volunteers must be an AKSC member in good standing, pass a background check, and adhere to the ASKC Safety Policy. Learn more and apply to be a volunteer within the ASKC Member Portal.
