40 acres of private, ASKC member-only dark sky campground located 75 miles south of Kansas City under Bortle 3 skies.

Dark Sky Site

The Astronomical Society of Kansas City owns and operates a Dark Sky Site campground accessible only to ASKC members. This campground has hookups, showers, pit toiles, and an outbuilding with a stove, refrigerators, sink, electricity, and TV for movies.

The campground is maintained year round by a live-on facilitator who ensures the site is safe and well maintained. Access to the site is limited by a locked gate accessible only to ASKC members.

ASKC members bring their campers, tents, and telescopes to observe the night sky under Bortle 3 skies. Yearly the campground hosts the ASKC Heart of America Star Party and the ASKC Messier Marathon.

Join other ASKC members at the Dark Sky Site for a night or weekend of observing under incredibly dark skies. This truly is one of the best private campsites in the greater the Kansas City region.
